Missing of the women / horizontality place

This is an ode to the perceived and exotic gaze into an ancient landscape of disappearing spaces/traditions/genders waging war against a relentless, unforgiving and masculine modernism. This lyric is to the resilience of women who remain vertical in a crushing and disempowering universe. Yet, a misunderstood world nonetheless. This poem is an attempt to dispel the “curiosity” myth as an excuse for the arrogant and privileged position of colonial art pretending to care. A luta continua!

Soweto born Boyzie lives and works in South Africa. Along with some of his peers, he is part of an artistitic noise for developing a voice for contemporary dance practice and scholarship in Africa. For two editions, he was Artistic Director of the Jomba! Contemporary Dance Festival in Durban, South Africa. He is a key player in the creation of a regional, southern African collaborative with artists in Mozambique, the DRC and South Africa. A keenness for addressing questions to the perceived historic imbalances that bequeath Africa with the devilry of a lingering, obstinate and atrocious legacy, has led him to persist in working to develop his work in this regard, as well as advance the development projects in the Southern African region.
