Gudran

// We have met Gudran after the Urban Scénos in Douala, where Aliaa El Geredy was invited. She is the co-founder of Gudran with Sameh El Hawawy. We went in Alexandria, in order to prepar the project, see the site, meet the team. We were highly interested by the El Max area. It concentrates geopolitical tentions, an extremely complex urban territory. We wanted to interveene in the area. But the relation with the Gudran team didn’t work so well. There was kind of a qui-proco between a humanitarian position and the fact they wanted to be artists. When the residency began, there was real misunderstandings. And Egypt is a real dictatorship, a world where everybody is controling everybody. Around the project there was a lot of suspicion. The residency happened, it was difficult. The relation with inhabitants was good, intense, but the festival couldn’t take place.
